Privacy Policy
Effective November 2, 2026
- We don’t ask you to make an account with us, and we don’t collect your personal information.
- There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking in Three16.
- Your highlights, notes, questions and settings stay on your iPhone, and in your own private iCloud if you use it.
- Ask answers questions on your iPhone with Apple Intelligence. Your questions are not sent to us.
- We don’t sell or share your information, because we don’t have it.
Who we are
Three16 (“the app”) and the three16.app website are published by APineda Web LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the app and website handle and where it goes. If you have questions, email art@apinedaweb.com.
Information that stays on your iPhone
Three16 stores the following on your device so the app works for you. We never receive it.
- Your highlights, notes, saved verses and saved answers
- Questions you ask and the answers you receive
- Your place in the Bible, reading history and settings
- The name and photo you choose to add to your profile
- Any Bible translation you import from a file. Imported text is never sent to us or to the AI.
Deleting the app deletes this information from your iPhone.
iCloud sync
If you’re signed in to iCloud, Three16 syncs the information above to your private iCloud database using Apple’s CloudKit, so it appears on your other devices. That database belongs to your Apple Account: only you can read it, and we cannot access it. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy. You can erase it at any time in Three16 under Profile › Delete my account and data, and you can turn off iCloud for Three16 in your iPhone’s Settings.
Ask and Apple Intelligence
Ask uses Apple’s on-device language model (Apple Intelligence). Your question and the Bible passage it’s about are processed on your iPhone. They are not sent to APineda Web LLC or to any server we run. Apple Intelligence is provided by Apple under Apple’s terms and privacy policy.
Asking with your voice
In Ask, you can tap the microphone to say your question. Three16 listens only after you tap it, shows a moving wave while it’s listening, and stops when you tap stop, send your question or close Ask (and after one minute at most). Your speech is turned into text on your iPhone using Apple’s on-device speech recognition. The recording isn’t saved, and it isn’t sent to us. If your iPhone can’t recognize speech on the device, the microphone button doesn’t appear.
Three16 in Messages
Three16 adds an app to the Messages app drawer for sending verses. It shows verses from the Bibles inside Three16, and puts the verse you choose into your message as a picture with a three16.app link. It can’t read your conversations, and it doesn’t send anything to us. The message goes through Apple’s Messages like any other.
Services that the app contacts
Some features download content from other services. Like any request on the internet, these services receive your device’s IP address and basic technical information, and each handles it under its own privacy policy. We don’t send them your name, notes, questions or any account details.
| Service | When | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| API.Bible (American Bible Society) | When you read a licensed translation added from API.Bible | The passage requested. Publishers require a usage count of the verses shown (“FUMS”), which includes a random identifier created by the app that is not linked to you, your name or your Apple Account. |
| GitHub | When you add a free translation in the app | A request for that translation’s file |
| Hugging Face | When you download the natural voices | A request for the voice files |
| Apple | iCloud sync, notifications you turn on, Face ID | As described in Apple’s Privacy Policy |
Bible text from licensed translations is shown to you but not stored on any server of ours.
Notifications
If you turn on the verse of the day reminder, the notification is scheduled on your iPhone. We don’t send it from a server, and we don’t collect a notification token.
Face ID lock
If you turn on the optional lock, iOS checks your Face ID, Touch ID or passcode and only tells Three16 whether it matched. Three16 never receives your face data, fingerprint or passcode.
Shared links and this website
When you share a verse, Three16 can add a link such as three16.app/v/JHN.3.16 (you can turn this off in Profile). Opening a link loads this website. The website uses no cookies, no analytics and no advertising. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, for security and to keep the site running.
Children
Three16 is suitable for all ages and is not designed to collect information from anyone. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, for example by email, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA in California give you rights to access, correct, delete or move your personal information, and to opt out of its sale. Because your information stays on your devices and in your own iCloud, you can view, change or delete it yourself at any time in the app. We do not sell or share personal information, and we don’t use it for advertising or profiling. If you email us, we’ll use your message only to reply, and we’ll delete it on request.
Security
Your information is protected by your iPhone’s built-in encryption and by iCloud’s security. Connections the app makes to other services use HTTPS.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Three16 handles information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
